Solstice days


THE SHORTEST DAY FOR INDIA 21 DECEMBER 2012
   December 21, 2012 is a shortest day of the year called as winter solstice. Solstice occurs two times in a year to represent the start of winter and summer, respectively called as midwinter and mid-summer. On the day of solstice the sun reaches its highest and lowest point in the sky at noon, marked by the longest, shortest days and night respectively. 21Dec12 of the year when at noon the sun appears at its lowest altitude above the horizon. In the northern hemisphere it is called the southern solstice as the sun is its southern most point in the sky and it occurs in the southern portion also. We experience the shortest day and longest night of the year in winter solstice of 21 December 2012.the winter solstice is also called as midwinter, the shorestest day, the longest night and the first day of winter. This event has many interpretations of the event that differ from culture to culture but generally it’s a time of recognition of rebirth, involving  holidays, festivals, gatherings, rituals and beginning of harvest day.
